Work and Research

I collaborated with scientists and researchers from different institutions including University of Fort Hare, Stellenbosch University, University of KwaZulu-Natal, ARC Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute, ARC Irene and University of Glasgow. Thus far, I have co-supervised 2 masters students at Stellenbosch University who were on a project that investigated the molecular and genetic mechanisms by which ticks modulate the haemostatic, immune and inflammatory responses of the cattle host. I co-supervised 1 masters student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal who investigated the effect of protein and vitamin E supplementation on gastrointestinal nematode infections in sheep. Currently, I am supervising 1 PhD student who is investigating the effect of ancient and modern tick-host associations on host resistance to cattle ticks in different beef cattle breeds. I have published in high impact peer-reviewed international journals. I have published an average of 1.7 journal papers per year from 2007 to date with a total of 375 citations. My google scholar h- and i10-index are 13 and 14 respectively and will continue to grow. The articles are published in different regions including journals form Africa, Asia, Europe and Australia. In all the articles which I have co-authored, I have co-developed the research from its inception and assisted in various stages of the research including the editing of the drafts.
