Bio
Abel Ramoelo is the Director of the Centre for Environmental Studies and an Associate Professor at the Department of Geography, Geoinformatics and Meteorology at the University of Pretoria. Abel completed his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Environmental Sciences at the University of Venda in 2003 and 2004, respectively. He then completed his MSc in Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation for Environmental Management and Modelling (GEM-MSc) at four European Universities – namely, Southampton, Lund, Warsaw, and the University of Twente (ITC). Abel holds a PhD degree in Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation from the University of Twente’s Faculty of Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation (UT-ITC). Abel’s research interests include using remote sensing data at various scales to monitor and assess the environment. His research informs decisions about natural resource and environmental issues such as rangelands, biodiversity conservation, land degradation, climate change impact, water resources, and food security.
